The Daily Dog: Storm
Urban Dog and Onpets Giveaway Winner
Storm was rescued in January from Serenity Animal Hospital. She was in a hoarding situation prior to being taken to Serenity so her parents knew they would have to work with her to acclimate her to a safe forever home. Her parents immediately fell in love with Storm when she approached them and begged to go home. Storm’s parents told us that “Serenity was so helpful with helping us find the perfect dog for our home. We were shown several dogs and allowed to interact with them. They were very patient with us. We have a six-year-old daughter so it was really important to us to find a dog who would be able to get along with her and, most importantly, we wanted a dog that she could love. We lost our beloved 15-year-old, Jojo last June and our daughter was so heartbroken when we had to put him to sleep. She said that she wanted a dog that would live a long life. Serenity estimated that Storm is three-years-old so we know she will be here with us for quite some time.”

Getting Storm acclimated to her new forever home was a bit of an adjustment for everyone. She had to be house trained because while she was living in the hoarding situation she had to relieve herself in the house. She is still working on this but is improving as the weather warms up in Michigan. Storm is not a fan of the winter! Storm also had to adjust to meeting new people so her parents had friends and family come over when Storm first got joined the family to start socializing her. Storm was initially very skittish with strangers but developed a bond of trust with her new family. When new people came over, Storm’s parents would supply a bag of small treats for them to give to her so that she would develop positive association with them and begin to feel comfortable around new people. This has worked so well that Storm no longer needs treats to welcome people into her home and spread the love!
Storm loves to hang out outside on warm, sunny days. When she’s not outdoors she always seems to find a spot in the sun in the house. Storm loves giving sweet kisses on the lips! She tries to do it to everyone who comes to our home. Lots of welcoming hugs too!

When asked shy it was important to rescue, Storm’s mom told us “Storm came from a hoarding situation in Ohio where there were 18 dogs in one home. When I heard that I knew that she needed some attention and some love. I am a stay-at-home mom so I could be there for her and tend to her needs. She loves being the center of attention. I can’t imagine what her living situation may have been like before she got rescued. It is important to rescue because there are dogs like Storm who have been neglected and not cared for. I am more than happy to take care of her and give her all the love that she needs.”
As you can see from Storm’s glamour shots, she is quite comfortable with her new life. As her mom says, “She will do anything for a treat! She will even rock a wig!”
