The 147th edition of Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show — America's second-longest continuously held sporting event —takes place this year at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. This historic event is the centerpiece of Westminster Week. Breed Judging and Junior Showmanship Preliminaries start on Monday, May 6th. The dogs entered at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show each compete within their own breed to be chosen as Best of their Breed / Variety. There are 212 AKC-recognized breeds and varieties. Junior Showmanship is a competition assessing the handling skills of children 9-18 years of age independent of the traits of the dog. The competition promotes proper training and care to prepare future generations for responsible dog ownership, sportsmanship, and future success in the sport.
