Dog Balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Chase from PAW Patrol in Thanksgiving Parade
Pretty much every year the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade features a giant dog balloon. This year, it’s Chase, the leader of the PAW Patrol, a show on the Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. television networks.

Don’t have kids? Me neither. I had to look up what PAW Patrol is. Here’s a description from the show’s website:
Led by 10-year-old Ryder, the plucky pups of PAW Patrol are rescue dogs in training. Each pup is inspired by a real-world job like fire fighter, police officer, and construction worker. When trouble strikes Adventure Bay, they’re there to save the day! Whether it’s a cat in a tree or a train off the tracks, they always find a way to help those in need.
And Chase is a “German Shepherd [who] is an athletic natural leader who likes to take charge. Chase may be on the case, but he has to watch out for cats and feathers because he’s allergic.”

Other dogs who’ve been featured in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade include: Snoopy, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Underdog, Blue from Blue’s Clues, Scooby-Doo, Goofy, Jake from Adventure Time, and Beethoven, (the Saint Bernard from the Beethoven movies.)
Snoopy is the parade’s canine all-star. He’s been appearing periodically in the show since 1968. Eight different balloon versions of Snoopy have floated downtown over the years.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade takes place on Thanksgiving naturally. Around three million people line city streets to watch it. It runs from 9:00 AM to noon. It’s broadcast live on NBC.
A fun thing to do is watch them inflate the balloons the day before Thanksgiving. It takes in and around the American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side. It starts at 1:00 PM and runs until 8:00 PM. Click here for tips on how to best enjoy the balloon inflation.
