ASPCA’s 150th and Adoptapalooza

Mayor’s Alliance for Animals’ Signature Event

The ASPCA celebrated its 150th birthday on a beautiful New York City Spring Sunday with a walk down Broadway in the first annual Paws Parade.

The festive walk featured hundreds of dogs and people decked out in the organization’s signature color, orange. Bernadette Peters was the Grand Marshall; the event also starred NYPD Mounted and Canine Units, NYFD mascots, and other notable four-legged New Yorkers.

The parade ended in Union Square where the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals was hosting one of its twice-a-year Adoptapalooza events.

Here’s more from the ASPCA about its 150th birthday and how you can help celebrate its sesquicentennial. Click here to learn more about the organization itself and here to donate.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. Our organization was founded on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, we are recognized as a national animal welfare organization.

Make sure you check out the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC ‘s Animals calendar for future Adoptapalooza events:

NYC’s original mega pet adoption event! These free, public pet adoption extravaganzas feature wonderful cats, dogs, and sometimes rabbits from dozens of Alliance Participating Organizations. Each Adoptapalooza features additional activities, which might include advice on pet care, training, and grooming; product giveaways; low-cost microchipping; dog licensing; pet photographers; dog performances; or other fun activities for the whole family — two- and four-legged alike.
