Jason O’Malley’s Modern Portraits for Modern People
Great Gift Idea for Dog Owners
If you’re thinking getting a portrait done of you and your pooch, think about commissioning one from Jason O’Malley. I had one made for Clark as a birthday gift featuring him, our Weimaraner Kendall, and me. We loved it so much, we had portraits done of our friends Robert and Angel, our consulting veterinarian Noa Safra, and my parents. This opened the floodgates! A slew of our friends commissioned portraits for themselves. (Cat owners don’t fret. Our friends Markus and Peter had one made of them with their two kitties.) Jason is a former New Yorker who now lives and works up in the Catskills. He doesn’t just do portraits, he also has an extensive background in commercial and editorial art.
His vibrant and colorful illustrations of modern people, places, and pets have been published globally by the likes of Gap, Mini-Cooper, Ikea, Coca Cola, Miramax Books, and American Express. His editorial illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, OUT, Lucky, InStyle, and numerous international publications. He has illustrated more than 10 books, giving new depth and range to pet keeping and pop-up children’s books as well as weddings, food, and fashion.
In fact, Jason designed our amazing Urban Dog logo.

I love all these portraits! Jason O’Malley does great work!
I had a potrait done of me and my girl Sadie about two years ago. It turned out better than i could have imagined. Sadie passed away last August and the portrait has become one of my most treasured possessions. So glad i did it, and John is a dream to work with!
Stephen… if you have a digital copy of Sadie’s portrait send it to us at sean@urbandognyc.com and we’ll add it to the post.
