Urban Dog is so sad to hear that new York City’s first dog-friendly cafe, Boris & Horton is closing.
Co-owner Logan Mikhly announced the decision yesterday.
The cause? The usual problem facing so many businesses in New York City: high costs.
As reported in Time Out NY:
‘“While we’re busy a lot of the time, there’s a lot of times where we’re just too slow,” Boris & Horton’s co-owner Logan Mikhly told Time Out New York via phone. “Our average ticket doesn’t meet our needs.” Rent, staffing and the cost of ingredients and materials are high, and increasing’
The cafe first opened in 2018 in the East Village and last summer opened a branch in Williamsburg.
Boris & Horton quickly became a hot spot for dog owners, hosting breed meet-ups and adoption events — and — an entertainment nexus, featuring such shows as Must Love Dogs (and Comedy.)
Their last day of operation is February 26.
