The Daily Dog: Murphy
Urban Dog and Onpets Giveaway Winner
Murphy is a seven-year-old Chihuahua mix that his parents adopted three years ago. His parents wanted to adopt a small dog and found Murphy on the Homeward Bound City Pound Facebook page. He had been there for well over a month and when his prospective parents went to meet him. Murphy jumped right into his mom’s lap and claimed her for his own. His parents told us “This little guy wasn’t fit for shelter life. He would pee in his kennel to get a staff member or volunteer to come visit. He didn’t want to walk. He’s very much a people dog and a lap dog. He was having a hard time adjusting to being secluded in the shelter.”

Now Murphy loves hiking! Although he is small in size, he can keep up with his parents’ multi-hour hikes and thanks his lucky stars that he is no longer confined round-the-clicl in a small cage. Murphy is a big personality trapped in a little body and he loves playing on his parents’ bed with his sock monkey which he will fetch all day long. Murphy has fully embraced his forever life and plays at his parents’ level. He doesn’t always like being a small dog and is a little smarty. He parents told us “As soon as he hears the word “bed,” he flies off the couch and up the stairs to our bedroom he goes. It may be his favorite part of the day.”
When asked why they chose to rescue, Murphy’s parents responded “There are so many dogs out there that we don’t see the point in getting a pup from a breeder. Rescuing was the only option for us. Shelter dogs have a reputation of behavioral issues but that just isn’t the case.”
They continued “We don’t know Murphy’s background so we didn’t know what he knew. Over time, we discovered he knew commands and he loved to walk. He stays in our yard, he walks great off-leash, he has manners and he is just so lovable!!”
